Organic Waste Collection

Waste Collection & Processing

The key primary goal of KilimoFiti is to process biowaste efficiently with regards to investment and operational costs and space requirements. By processing biowaste, threats to public health and the environment can be reduced through BSF technology.

Kilimofiti addresses the impacts of climate change effects by curbing its root causes through proper management of organic waste before it ends up in the environment thus releasing methane gas which is a contributor of greenhouse gases responsible for the depletion of the ozone layer thus results in climate change which affects the agricultural sector.

Our Story

As part of KilimoFiti overall organic fertilizer production, organic waste collection is among our services. We collect organic waste (kitchen waste, yard waste and rotten fruits and vegetables) from hotels, learning institutions, households, and marketplaces in Kilifi township. We sort the trash and compost the organic waste at our recycling site to produce manure sold to farmers.

The surplus organic waste is then used to feed black soldier flies being reared in our farm and at the project’s garden to plant herbs and fresh vegetables sold to the hotels and marketplaces. Additionally, the black soldier fly larva is used to aid in the process of composting organic waste.

The site will act as a Centre for learning where local community members, tourists, and schools from all international and national levels can visit to learn more about organic waste recycling.

All these activities demand a workforce; therefore, the waste collection services will help in creating job opportunities. Not only are we providing environmental benefits but also socio-economic benefits for the local community members. Our target group for employment include youths and women groups.
