1. Hydroponics farming – These innovative farming techniques involve growing plants without soil, nourishing the plants through specialized nutrients added to water. In hydroponics systems, crops are grown with the roots directly in mineral solution.
At KilimoFiti, we embrace hydroponic fodder production as a viable means of saving and safeguarding the livelihoods of drought-hit communities in Kilifi.
2. Organic Farming-Involves the production of a holistic system designed to optimize the productivity and fitness of diverse communities within the agro-system, including soil organisms, plants, livestock and people.
The principal goal of organic production is to develop enterprises that are sustainable and harmonious with the environment. KilimoFiti goals in organic production include the following but are not limited to:
- protect the environment, minimize soil degradation and erosion, decrease pollution, optimize biological productivity, and promote a sound state of health
- prepare organic products, emphasizing careful processing, and handling methods in order to maintain the organic integrity and vital qualities of the products at all stages of production
- maintain long-term soil fertility by optimizing conditions for biological activity within the soil
- maintain biological diversity within the system
- recycle materials and resources to the greatest extent possible within the enterprise
- rely on renewable resources in locally organized agricultural systems
3. Regenerative Farming– A holistic approach designed to sustain soils and regenerate them, improving soil health as the central foundation. It focuses on soil restoration while growing crops by using cover crops, crop rotation, compost, and animal manures.
